Cultural Extremes

I would hope you could have a section on "Culture of the Arts" which I would think would be subcategorized into Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Fine Arts etc. There seems to be a whole cultural society assosciated with these areas and would hopefully attract some interesting discussions.

Definitely doable. Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully it is through the collaboration of all users, that this site will evolve. Culture is such a broad, all encompassing topic. It seems as if almost anything you can think of can have culture or subculture associated with it in some way. That's what makes this area so interesting. The possibilities of what we can write about and discuss are endless.

I know you mentioned this at one point, but are you planning on adding theoolgy forums?

I am considering something along those lines. I was thinking more along the lines of extreme/radical religious cultures like radical islam and even what some have referred to as radical christianity. As I was reading you r post though, I was thinking that it doesn't need to be limited explicitly to radical religions as there are distinct cultural differences between almost all religions and followers; at least between those who take their religions very seriously.

Personally I think a general forum on religion would be good. It will automatically divide itself into different areas. I think by defining such a forum as radical etc. you are precluding many area that fall somewhere in between. Keep it general and I think you will get more discourse.

Maybe I'll separate out some of the more radical cultures into their own section or place them in the extreme cultures category and then create a genreal category for religion and theology. I think some of these extremeist groups (e.g., al-queda, hezbollah, followers of Muqtada Al-Satr, etc) need to be discussed in an area that is devoted to such extremism. I don't think you can do the topics justice by throwing them into a general forum.

Will you be adding a forum for radical atheism?

Just kidding. I had to post that link though. It's an interview with Douglas Adams (author of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and others). He explains why he is a radical atheist. Very funny and quite clever.

I thought it was kind of cute. It actually came preloaded with the themes for the forum. I may download some more avatars this weekend. I downloaded a bunch of smileys but there are a few that skyecade has at his site that I want to try and find (e.g. Michael Jackson dancing).
