Hello everyone,

I mean like Thundercats, Voltron, the OLD transformers, not the new ones. And shows like that. Some of the shows though like Voltron, were on before I was born. I'm a 90's girl of course, but I appreciate the classics. And no I don't think Sailor Moon counts.

So which old cartoons do you like? and do you wish they would show now or more often?

Does anyone fancy getting a league together on FIFA?

Following my rant in the general games thread about stupid people online only playing as Real Madrid and/or quitting when losing I thought it would be good to play against fellow CVG'ers who want to play properly.

I was thinking that it could be mixed up a bit by allowing the 'home' player being able to decide the league to play in, thus filtering teams of choice.

So if i was playing at home as my beloved Leicester (no sniggering at the back thank you)then you'd have to choose another championship team. if someone choose la liga then i guess you could have your real's and barca's of this world.

this should help to level things out.

rules are no quitting even if you're getting stuffed. we could post the results back here and build up the league as we go along.

i will be playing with a mate on the same machine so if anyone wants a guest or guests then go right ahead, the more the merrier.

if you're interested and if you have any other ideas for a fair way of playing FIFA post in here and we'll get things set up.

What are we, as a nation, doing about it? Have we heard anything from our presidential hopefuls regarding the methods they will employ to resolve this situation? SUre, McCain has recently been talking about drilling domestically, but is his talk sincere or is he only looking for votes? I think he is not sincere.
Politics has become a very confusing game. Very rarely does a politician speak truthfully about any of their beliefs. We have become so wound up in the republican v. democrat game that we have lost sight of the real reason for politics and politicians. I'm personally tired of half truths and vague responses. Presidential politics and presidential hopefuls may be the worst offenders, even if only because of the powerful position they are working towards. In the recent past, we've heard Hillary Clinton speaking with a southern drawl in order to appeal to the southern christians. We've heard Barack Obama speak entire ads in spanish. The press focuses on what a poor example Giuliani would be because he has made mistakes in his personal life and Mitt Romney is under scrutiny because he has changed his mind on some issues. We need a presidential hopeful who, from the start "says this is what I believe in and this is what I want to do". Then, and only then, will we truly be able to elect someone who the majority feels is the best candidate. Enough with the games. Stop trying to be something you're not. If you were meant to truly be a leader, your true stance on issues will appeal or at least be acceptable to the masses. If all politicians were honest about their positions, we would have a much better chance moving in a forward, effective direction. With that being said, what would your platform be? What positions and/or beliefs do you hold that would make you an effective leader?

So, to take a step back from the war in Iraq, is it possible that there are other problems that need to be addressed, perhaps just as pressing? Of late I've been growing more and more into what might be termed and eco-friendly mindset, though I am not fanatical. Gas prices will not go down again. Exxon-Mobil knows that they can charge near $3 a gallon, and people will still buy gas. That's a given. Despite criticism and denials, I strongly believe that global warming is a real thing. Are we to ignore it entirely? Is it a big political hoax? Or is it perhaps time that we all make a few small lifestyle changes, that may put more into our wallets and less into the atmosphere? Though such options are not available to everyone, at least to make an example, I have been taking public transit to work, reading during the commute, and saving about $35 a week on gas. I don't claim to be a model environmentalist, but I think there are certain comforts or norms that anyone can scrutinize for him or herself, and maybe save a buck or two.

Well this is another Harry Potter summer. The premier of the fifth movie "The Order of The Phoenix " will be opening soon with some special midnight showings for the die hard fans. Also the long awaited final book in the series Deathly Hollows will be released on July 21st again with quite a fanfare and bookstore events. There is definitely a Harry Potter "culture" out there and what better place to discuss this Harry Potter phenomenon than on Cultural Extremes.
Who do you think will be dead at the end of the final book?
Is Dumbledore really dead?? Is Snape really as evil as he appears? Is this really the end of the series?
There is so much Potter talk going on that I would hope others would add comments and discussion.
PS: A separate Harry Potter section might be nice so that Potterphiles could have yet another place to discuss this series and the new book.:icon_eek:

I'm toying with the idea of deleting most of the forum categories and starting from scratch. Anyone who has signed on as a member should not be affected as a result of this change. I do this with some hesitation as there have been a few good comments and a few good discussions; however, the time has come to take some steps to revive this site. As I have stated, culture is all around us. Everything that we think to talk about could relate to culture in some way. I'm thinking along the lines of broad topics such as current events, entertainment, cyber culture, etc. Sub forums could then be created to become more specific. Feel free to add your thoughts.
OK so no one else was going to bring this up apparently.

Many people believe that there is a group of extremists, within the religion of Islam. It is thought that these extremists and/or radicals are intent on destroying the culture and way of life, of wextern civilizations. I think it is clear that this threat exists, just look at the events of September 11. However, what, if anything, should we do about this? If their intent is really to "kill" us, how do we go about the rest of our lives? Do we, forever, look over our shoulders? Is there some way that we can co-exist with this extreme culture, as well as others? What are your thoughts? What do you know about the religion of Islam and how it differs from "Radical Islam"?

I figured I'd start this off with something that everyone can get into. Last year, my wife and I bought a 52" RCA hd projection. We love it. I know there are many tvs that are much more technologically advanced but for our purposes, this is great. Gamin on it has been flawless. I was originally worried about response times, but have yet to be disappointed. It's nice to play Call of Duty 2 or Gears of War and have the players on screen be almost life size. What do you have?
